Net Neutrality as Muse
Net Neutrality remains in the spotlight in 2011. This month, it will be the inspiration for a series of artworks at a gallery in Santa Barbara, California.
The gallery, Super Santa Barbara (SSB), offers issue-driven contemporary art exhibitions. This year, SSB has asked artists to “focus on Net Neutrality and how its presence/absence relates to the future of our community.”
Fifteen artists are responding to many questions about the future of the Internet, including, “Should the Net be a level playing-field, or should big companies be allowed to 'use the tubes' as they see fit? Should access to information be treated like a public utility, or will corporations make decisions on what you see on the web? Have the phone companies and internet service providers used our tax dollars to create the information infrastructure they promised? Is our future being throttled, or is this just a free-market? And what does all this mean for Santa Barbara?”
Today marks the opening of the exhibition. Find out more here.
