The Web We Want Awards Its First Grants
Last month, our Web We Want campaign announced the launch of our Small Grants program, through which we made a limited number of small grants to national and global digital rights efforts.
We’ve been overwhelmed with the response to our initial submission process. In just one month, we received more than 70 responses and awarded 13 initial small grants.
True to the spirit of the project, the award recipients are a global group, hailing from Bangladesh, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, the Philippines, Uganda and the United States.
Grants will support a wide range of endeavors, including trainings for bloggers and journalists, studies into social media usage, public awareness campaigns about the impact of mass surveillance and efforts to beat back state censorship online.
