Don't Miss Your Chance to Speak Out Against the Comcast-Time Warner Cable Merger

The worst company in America — Comcast — is fighting hard and spending tons of cash to convince Washington that its merger with Time Warner Cable is anything but bad news.

Americans know better — and thousands have told the FCC that there’s nothing good to gain from this deal.

The agency recently extended the deadline to submit comments on the merger. But we need to act fast — the new deadline, Oct. 29, is quickly approaching.

Need some ideas on how to explain why Comcast’s grab for more control is a bad idea? Just look at what these current and former Comcast and Time Warner Cable customers have told the FCC:

A company that overcharges should not get to be a monopoly! I’m stuck with [Comcast], but please make sure at least other people have a choice.

— Darcy from Proctor, Vt.

Comcast has had consistently terrible and unreliable service with consistent increases in prices that only serve to increase and not maintain profits. I’ve noticed some recent improvements in service, but these have only ever happened when competition moves to an area or when Comcast wants something from the U.S. government. As soon as Comcast gets what it wants, it is ALWAYS a return to the same status quo of consistently terrible, overpriced service with no viable alternatives or viable competitors. Each and every time they have been called out on this, they always promise that this time will be different, and that promise is consistently broken as surely as the rain comes. Do NOT allow this merger. Comcast is made of predators who will stop at nothing less than total dominance over the U.S. telecom and media infrastructure.

— James from Walterboro, S.C.

Comcast already tacks on countless false surcharges and uses the fact that few people check their bills monthly. We have to call in monthly to get these bogus charges retroactively removed ($40+/per month for false rental fees, etc.). The only silver lining is that Comcast is not a complete monopoly in my area so they can’t charge exorbitant [prices]. They have already proven themselves to be a despicable money-driven company and this merger would only help them steal more money from the American people.

— Rachel from Avon, Conn.

I am a current Comcast customer. The service is horrific and fraught with billing errors, confirmed service calls missed (without explanation), intermittent and regular outages, and third-world customer service. And that is just last week. Please don’t make matters worse.

— Clint from Spring, Texas

This merger would give Comcast more monopolistic rights and create further price gouging and bad customer service (although I shudder to think how much worse it can get). Please do not support this deal; it is so wrong in so many ways for American consumers.

— Cheryl from Seattle

The comments speak for themselves: Allowing the merger would hurt consumers. Call the FCC and submit your comment today. After you share your story, help fund the fight to support Free Press’ campaign to stop this deal.
