Free Press on the Road
This month, Free Press staff will zigzag across the United States to meet with activists and allies, give talks, inspire action — and listen and learn alongside others engaged in the movement to change our media. Among the cities in our itinerary are Washington, D.C., Boulder, Colo., Los Angeles and Detroit. But that’s not all …
This week, three Free Press staffers are part of the lineup at SXSW, the annual music, film and technology conference and festival in Austin, Texas. On Sunday, Advocacy and Organizing Manager Candace Clement and allies had fun talking about comedy’s role in social change. On Monday morning, Internet Campaign Director Josh Levy discussed mobile democracy, and on Monday afternoon Free Press President and CEO Craig Aaron (pictured) will break down mega-mergers and the future of the Internet.
Here is a look at upcoming events:
- March 16–17: Senior External Affairs Director Joseph Torres will discuss race and the American media on Friday and Saturday at Michigan State University. Torres is co-author of the New York Times bestseller News for All the People.
- March 20: Craig Aaron will participate in a panel discussion at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication about Web censorship bills and Internet politics.
- March 29: Advocacy and Organizing Director Misty Perez Truedson will attend the Feminist Majority’s Women, Money, Power Summit in Washington, D.C., to talk with participants about the importance of including women’s voices in media policy debates.
