More Groups Join the Chorus Urging Shareholders to Vote for Wireless Net Neutrality
In the last few weeks, more than 50,000 people have shown their support for the shareholders’ campaign to get AT&T, Sprint and Verizon to commit to wireless Net Neutrality.
Shareholders will vote on the question in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, more individuals and groups are stepping up to support this bold move.
On Monday, investment management firm Trillium wrote an open letter urging Verizon shareholders to vote for Net Neutrality, arguing that the open Internet carries “huge financial and social benefits” and is essential to the health of the economy.
Trillium Vice President Jonas Kron said in the letter:
We call on shareholders to tell these companies that providing preferential treatment for some content while discriminating against other content is unacceptable … We believe the weight of the evidence clearly demonstrates that network neutrality is in the interests of the companies' shareholders as well as the interests of all consumers.
This letter followed on the heels of one Trillium sent to AT&T shareholders last week. Sprint shareholders are expected to receive their missive later this month.
Now we need more investment firms, state pension funds and individual investors to follow Trillium’s lead and urge shareholders to support wireless Net Neutrality. The more they can pile on, the closer we will come to securing Net Neutrality from the inside.
